How I Did It

I had a great friend that introduced me to running and although I hated it at first, I kept going at it. One day he asked me to sign up for a 5k with him...it was on St. Patty's Day and I thought...cool, free beer, so I begrudgingly signed up.
We started training together (I was MUCH slower than him) and I found myself loving the way I felt after a run. On race day, I was extremely nervous, but the energy and buzz surrounding the event was amazing. I just couldn't get enough.
I finished the race in decent shape for a once-lazy bum, and was hooked from there forward. The culture of the local 5k, 10k, and marathon scenes were an untapped source of great friends, competitors, and allies. Should you decide to do your first race, I promise that you'll have a great time!
